What Is a Full Agent Bond

A full agent bond backs the duties your business owes to PennDOT and to the other parties protected by Form MV-375. The form spells out which transactions are covered and what limits apply.

Three parties are involved: the business required to obtain the bond (the principal), the surety company that issues it, and PennDOT, which requires it (the obligee). Ashton helps arrange the bond but isn’t one of those three parties. If the surety pays a valid claim, the principal has to pay the surety back.

Who Needs One and What It Covers

Pennsylvania full agents need a $30,000 bond for each place of business. Other states may use different authorizations and bond requirements, so use the rules for the state where you operate.

PennDOT’s MV-375 instructions list $30,000 for full agents. The form asks for the principal, business name, business address, agent ID, bond number, and any branch offices.

PennDOT describes agent services as including title and registration applications and temporary registration products. Some agents also have online access. The bond itself doesn’t decide which services or systems your authorization allows.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a full-agent bond the same as a card-agent bond?

No. PennDOT lists them as separate categories with different bond amounts. Use the category on your authorization when you request the bond.

What if I open another office?

The $30,000 amount applies to each place of business, so the bond needs to cover the new office too. Ask PennDOT what bond paperwork the new office needs under your agreement. The bond form asks for any branch offices, so have those details ready when you request a quote.

Does the bond give me online PennDOT access?

No. Online access depends on your PennDOT agreement and authorization. Getting the bond doesn’t by itself open every service or system.

Is the $30,000 an annual fee?

No. The $30,000 is the bond amount PennDOT requires. The premium is the separate price you pay, and it renews on its own terms. MV-375 is a continuous bond.
